First of all, I really like my university. I think it is a good place to be but it could be even better. I am going to be a teacher and therefore I spend most of my time in a building called “Gebäude C”. In my seminars and lessons I often hear how important it is to build a comfortable atmosphere in the classroom as it supports the learning process. I am looking forward to doing so but I can’t find a lot of inspiration in “Gebäude C”. This part of the university was built in 1970 and it seems like it hasn’t changed in all the years since then. On the one hand, there are many nice buildings for the other faculties. They all have a more modern touch, even from the outside. The building for the Art and Music students, for example, is the newest on campus. It was built in 2012 and seems to be very modern and inspirational. Can you believe that this building and “Gebäude C” belong to one campus? Of course you cannot compare the architecture as they were built in different decades, but shouldn’t there be an effort to make the atmosphere equally pleasant? Over time students and even the educational systems change, yet the building and its atmosphere never does. But why? Shouldn’t it be the goal to inspire all students, even the future teachers who will need this inspiration for their work in the classroom? My time here will soon be over, but I hope the future will bring some changes in “Gebäude C” and more students then can feel inspired. There is potential, it only has to be developed by open-minded people.
